Rajeev Khandelwal's new passion

Actor Rajeev Khandelwal, whose performance in 'Soundtrack' as a DJ-gone-deaf has been much appreciated, says he loved the process of getting to understand how a deejay moved, danced and played music.
'I took a seven weeks crash-course as a DJ. I went with my director Neerav Ghosh to nightclubs, watched them at work and then began to research on them. VJ Nikhil Chinappa, who was my co-star in 'Shaitan', also helped me understand the art,' says Khandelwal.
The actor, who started his career from the small screen, says he wants to spend more time practicing the art.
'I can't claim to be a professional DJ. But I know how to fit beats into a loop, mix two songs. We have a rather fixed image of a DJ as a guy who plays songs and dances frantically, gesticulating with his hands all the while. But I discovered many DJs are far more controlled in their movements,' he said.
To prepare for his role in 'Soundtrack', the actor also attended a workshop for the deaf.
'I was coached by a teacher from the Helen Keller institute who was actually my co-star Soha Ali Khan's teacher. The thing is, I wasn't playing a guy who was deaf since birth. The body language and the quality of deafness that happens much later in life is different,' the actor said.
He says he made it a point not to watch actor Paul Kaye in the Canadian film 'It's All Gone Pete Tong' which is the reference point for Rajeev's character in 'Soundtrack'.
'No, I purposely stayed away from that film. But I did watch some footage of Frankie Wilde. The story of that DJ who went deaf was far more bizarre and debauched than what we've portrayed in 'Soundtrack'. The drugs, alcohol and sex in 'Soundtrack' was toned down.'
The biggest compliment for Rajeev came from his wife.
'She said it was a good performance. She wouldn't bullshit me. If I am awful, she would say so. So if she says I am good I must be,' he says.

The Dhoni, unbeaten partnership of 65 runs with Jadeja at a critical stage four balls in 49.2 overs by 300 runs losing five wickets for India achieved the target. JANNAT 2

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's JANNAT 2 starring Emraan Hashmi and model Esha Gupta made a kick start Friday morning in the capital. First shot took place at 8:45 a.m.; on the contrary, it faced a stampede at Chandni Chowk in Delhi also on the same day and the shoot had to be wrapped much earlier to its scheduled pack-up time. The evening shoot had to be canceled and the reason is being told that a lot of people came to see Emraan when they came to know that their favourite actor is shooting at a nearby location in Delhi... In this industry only two people have created that kinda stir either Salman or Emraan. The film, directed by Kunal Deshmukh, is a sequel to the 2008 film JANNAT.
If reports are to be believed, previously named as 'INFORMER', the film is thematically similar to the prequel. JANNAT 2 is also a story about a single man's immense desire to make it big in life by any means. Arjun Dixit, the character played by Emraan Hashmi in JANNAT, was a small time gambler turned into a big shot bookie, while this time, JANNAT 2 will have illegal arms trading in the background.

Set Up verdict vigil

Pat Hughes left the bar he owns in New York City, flew across the country and showed up at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday morning to stand in line.
He wasn't trying to buy tickets to the Super Bowl or a Lady Gaga concert or shop at a holiday sale. Rather he wanted to be sure of getting a seat in a stuffy courtroom where lawyers would spend hours expounding on the minutiae of semiconductor technology.
Such is the dedication of investors in Rambus Inc, which for a decade has been fighting to prove that titans of industry conspired to steal its patents, fix prices and drive it out of business. Closing arguments ended Wednesday in Rambus's lawsuit against Micron Technology Inc and Hynix Semiconductor Inc after more than three months of testimony.
Investors such as Hughes have descended on the California Superior Court in San Francisco to watch their side do battle -- and perhaps make a last-minute trade.
"It's the David vs. Goliath thing," said Hughes, 46. "And so many of us have lost so much of our investment."
Billions of dollars are at stake. Rambus is asking for $3.95 billion in damages, which by California law would be instantly tripled, as well as unspecified punitive damages. Such an award could dramatically change the fortune of a company worth $1.46 billion in market capitalization as of Wednesday.
The company's shares often gyrate in tandem with major court decisions. For example, in January 2007 Rambus shares gained 9 percent after a favorable ruling in a case involving Hynix.
And the shares dropped 18 percent in May this year when an appeals court ruled against Rambus in a case against Micron.
On Thursday, a half dozen of the Ramboids, as company followers call themselves, set up a vigil in the marble-floored corridor outside the courtroom, waiting for the jury to return.
Jim Rockwell of Orange, Connecticut, said he has followed the company's fortunes since investing in 1999. A former software company owner, Rockwell said he was impressed by Rambus' inventions, which he believes underlie much of the hardware now on the market. "Computer memory would be so much slower if it were not for what they did," he said.
Rockwell, who also attended previous trials in California, Virginia and Washington, D.C., spent a week lining up at 6 a.m. for one of the coveted 42 seats in the courtroom. By Wednesday morning, the line stretched nearly a block, and anyone who arrived after 7 a.m. was relegated to following the online postings of the early birds.
The group shared donuts in line and many went out for dinner to pore over the closing arguments.
Lawyers for both sides focused on the reasons and the timing of the decision by the dominant microprocessor company, Intel Corp, to abandon Rambus's memory product RDRAM in favor of SDRAM, which became the industry standard.
Rambus says South Korea's Hynix and Idaho-based Micron colluded to fix prices of memory chips used in personal computers and prevent its technology from becoming widely used. It claims it lost billions of dollars in business.
Micron and Hynix argue that Rambus's chip technology was plagued by technical problems and that the company blames competitors for its own failure.
Micron attorney William Price and Hynix attorney Kenneth Nissly displayed memos from Intel and other computer companies suggesting that Rambus's arrogance had alienated its business partners. "Based on their view of the product, Rambus, and the changing market, Intel had decided not to have anything to do with Rambus," said Price.
In rebuttal, Rambus attorney Bart H. Williams argued that Intel's decision to switch from RDRAM to SDRAM came about only because it was harder to get RDRAM. "It was all about price and availability," he said.
Much of Rambus income comes from patent licensing, and it has initiated litigation against a range of tech companies. Winning patent cases makes it easier for Rambus to negotiate additional licensing arrangements.

Alibaba Group

Chinese sportswear maker Dongxiang Group said on Friday it will invest $100 million in Yunfeng Capital, a fund targeted at making investments in Alibaba Group.
Yunfeng Capital, Silver Lake and DST Global said on Thursday they will buy shares in China's largest e-commerce group Alibaba by leading a tender offer for employee shareholders, option holders and certain other shareholders of Alibaba Group.
Singapore-based investment firm Temasek, a shareholder in Alibaba Group, is also taking part in the offer.
The transaction would give Alibaba an enterprise valuation of $32 billion, the tech blog AllThingsD said, adding the group would get a stake of just under 5 percent if the offer is fully subscribed.
Chinese online game developer Giant Interactive also said it will invest $50 million in Yunfeng Capital, which is co-founded by Alibaba Group Chairman Jack Ma.
Alibaba Group is the parent company of Alibaba.com, Taobao Mall, Taobao and AliCloud. Alibaba.com trading 3.5 percent higher at 0145 GMT (9:45 p.m. EDT).
Yahoo holds about 40 percent of Alibaba Group and will not be selling shares in the offer, the blog said.

Faster than light

Sub-atomic particles apparently traveling faster than light could force a major rethink of theories about how the cosmos works and even allow dreams of time travel and extra dimensions, scientists said on Friday.
Jeff Forshaw, a professor of particle physics at Britain's Manchester University, said the results, if confirmed, would mean it would be possible in theory "to send information into the past."
"In other words, time travel into the past would become possible ... (though) that does not mean we'll be building time machines any time soon," he told Reuters.
The international physicists who made the startling findings at CERN near Geneva said they must now be confirmed by independent research teams. The wider scientific community expressed astonishment and skepticism.
"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and this is an extraordinary claim," cosmologist and astrophysicist Martin Rees told Reuters.
CERN, also home to the Large Hadron Collider that is probing how the universe began and developed, said measurements over three years had shown invisible neutrino particles covering the 730 km to a laboratory in Italy 60 nanoseconds -- or 60 billionths of a second -- faster than light.
That reading could show that Albert Einstein, father of modern physics, was wrong when he laid down in his 1905 theory of special relativity that the speed of light was a "cosmic constant," and nothing could go faster.
CORNERSTONE OF SCIENCE
That principle, and Einstein's later general relativity theory, which expanded it into wider fields of physics, have been cornerstones of scientific views of the cosmos and how it works ever since.
The new finding was recorded when 15,000 neutrino beams were pumped over three years from CERN to an underground Italian laboratory at Gran Sasso near Rome.
Physicists on the experiment, called OPERA after the initials of its formal scientific title, say they had checked and rechecked over many months anything that could have produced a misreading before announcing what they had found.
Professor Jenny Thomas, who works on neutrinos at Fermilab, the U.S. physics research center near Chicago, commented: "The impact of this measurement, were it to be correct, would be huge."
OPERA's Dario Auterio, presenting the findings to a packed and clearly sceptical auditorium at CERN on Friday, said they were of "high statistical accuracy" and could not be explained by extraneous effects such as seismic tremors or moon phases.
He declined to get into theoretical interpretations and told his audience of largely CERN scientists that other research centres -- Fermilab and probably Japan's T2K neutrino research team -- must now take up the baton.
"In science, you can never be sure. Something odd can always happen, however careful you are," said CERN spokesman James Gillies. "You've always got to get an independent result from someone else before you can say it's a discovery."
SCEPTICISM VOICED
Many leading scientists were sceptical that Einstein's theories would have to be abandoned.
"It is premature to comment on this," said Professor Stephen Hawking, perhaps the world's best-known physicist, who has come up with contested ideas of his own. "Further experiments and clarifications are needed."
The high level of caution is normal in science where anything that could be a breakthrough discovery, especially one that overturns well-established thinking, is rigorously inspected by other researchers to see if they get the same results.
CERN's research director, Sergio Bertolucci, reaffirmed this principle.
"When an experiment finds an apparently unbelievable result and can find no artefact of the measurement to account for it, it is normal to invite broader scrutiny ... That is good scientific practice," he said.
Einstein's theory has been tested thousands of times over the past 106 years and only recently have there been slight indications that the behavior of some elementary particles of matter might not fit into it.
OPERA spokesman Antonio Ereditato said the sub-atomic neutrino, which is normally produced in nuclear decay or nuclear reactions such as those on the Sun and was only confirmed to exist in 1934, "is still surprising us with its mysteries."

Arrested In Tripura

A total of 14 Bangladeshi nationals, including three women and two children, were Saturday arrested for illegally entering India, police said.
'Acting on a tip-off, the Mobile Task Force (MTF) personnel arrested them from the Tripura capital and brought them before a local court, which later sent them into jail custody,' police spokesman Nepal Das told reporters.
Das, a deputy inspector general of police (police control), said that the foreign nationals were detained under the Indian Passport Act and they would be sent back to Bangladesh after completion of their jail term.
The apprehended intruders, who might have crossed the border in search of jobs, are residents of Moulavi Bazar, Nowakhali, Hatia, Habibganj, Feni, Chattagram, Commilla and Kishoreganj districts of Bangladesh adjoining India.
Indian and Bangladeshi currencies and some official documents were recovered from the detainees.
According to police, the MTF troopers recently intensified their drive to detain illegally migrants from Bangladesh, Myanmar and other countries.
Since last year, the Tripura Police have also detained 23 Myanmar nationals in Tripura and later sent them back to Bangladesh, from where they entered into the Indian territory looking for livelihood and jobs.

Online Music Studio

Bollywood producer Sunil Bohra is set to launch an online music studio that will reveal to the producers the revenues earned from the music of their film in a transparent manner.
Bohra Bros Music Studio will enable producers to remain the ultimate music rights owner, which is not being done by the big labels who typically acquire the music rights.
As opposed to a one-time music rights acquisition cost paid by the big music firms currently, Bohra Bros Music Studio aims to promote film music albums at initial cost to the producer.
And only after music starts selling will the studio plan to split the revenue with the producer in 70:30 ratio favouring the film producer.
The studio will also offer monthly reports of revenue earned by the film's music album and even give a break-up of sales across mobile, online, radio, digital and physical sales.
The BB Music Studio will be launched with the music of Bohra Bros upcoming film 'Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster', which releases Sep 30.

Most Returned Electronic Products

Only 5 percent of consumer electronics products returned to retailers are malfunctioning --yet many people who return working products think they are broken, a new study indicates.
The report by technology consulting and outsourcing firm Accenture pegs the costs of consumer electronics returns in 2007 at $13.8 billion in the United States alone, with return rates ranging from 11 percent to 20 percent, depending on the type of product.
Accenture estimates that 68 percent of returns are products that work properly but do not meet customers' expectations for some reason. "Either they thought it was defective when it wasn't, or there was an expectation gap," says Accenture executive Terry Steger.
The study attributes another 27 percent of returns to buyer's remorse--situations where customers simply changed their minds. That leaves only 5 percent of returns that are attributable to defects or other malfunctions.
Steger believes that the return rates for functional products would decline significantly if vendors and retailers invested more in making them easier to set up and use, and in educating buyers.
"I don't believe the returns issue is the result of lax retail return policies, or customers taking advantage of the ability to return," he says.
Rather, he says, high return rates often point to problems with products.
Complicated setup is one issue: The Accenture report cites a 2006 study by Dutch scientist Elke den Ouden, which determined that the average U.S. consumer spends only 20 minutes trying to make a device work before giving up and returning it to the seller.

Laptop Computers

Why would any person select an aluminum laptop briefcase instead of a normal tanned hide briefcase or a soothing laptop carrying case? Aside from the fact that they are great looking, aluminum laptop carrying cases are written especially for laptop computers. Other briefcases and carrying cases are holdovers from an progressing period and aren't unequivocally apt for computers.
Open up a standard, normal briefcase and you'll find a array of folders and compartments for keeping papers. On the side, there will moreover be pouches for pens, business cards and other tiny items. The normal briefcase developed in to a smart "mobile office" in the pre-computer age. A businessman's briefcase was frequently his honour and happiness and showed the world that he was a professional.
The complaint is, when laptops became the businessperson's necessary tool, briefcases didn't develop to adapt them. They did adapt to them by adding padded sections is to laptop, but that's not the same thing as conceptualizing a briefcase from the belligerent up is to internet age.
Aluminum laptop briefcases have been written from graze with the laptop initial and leading in mind. In fact, the designers chose aluminum over tanned hide precisely since it is a more apt element for a laptop carrying case. Aluminum is light, nonetheless burly and rigid. This creates it the best element for safeguarding your laptop from the blows it will fundamentally be subjected to when you're on a swarming street.
Traditional briefcases are non-stop from the tip whilst aluminum laptop briefcases open similar to suitcases, creation it ample simpler to fix up and eliminate your P.C. and its accessories. Larger models written for journey or presentations have a place is to laptop and its fittings in the tip half of the case, whilst the bottom half is indifferent for documents, clothing and other necessities.

ARM For Mobile Chips

Intel, whose chips are the brains in 80 percent of the world's PCs, is rushing to improve the power consumption of its mobile processors with new chips for tablets and smartphones.
To put advanced mobile chips on the market more quickly, Otellini said Intel would increase the pace of implementing new manufacturing technologies. Intel currently adopts new manufacturing technology every two years.
This month, Intel took the wraps off next-generation technology that crams more transistors onto microchips, betting it will eventually become a significant advantage in tablets and smartphones, where Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Nvidia are key players and use ARM.
Intel claims the "3D" new manufacturing process delivers as much as a 37 percent jump in performance while consuming less electricity -- a key ARM selling point.
"To be fair, process technology is just one important element of winning for Intel, but it is a major advantage and one we suspect the Street is underestimating," Raymond James analyst Hans Mosesmann said in a note to clients.
ARM Chief Executive Warren East told the Reuters Technology Summit on Tuesday that Intel's move to 3D technology would not affect plans by ARM's partners to manufacture smaller, more powerful chips.
Concern about Intel's lack of progress in the mobile segment has weighed on its stock, which is trading at 10 expected annual earnings, much cheaper than peers like Texas Instruments at 13 times and Advanced Micro Devices at 14 times.
The market for mobile chips is still tiny compared to Intel's PC processor business, but investors expect it to grow quickly.
Smartphones using Intel's new Medfield chip will go on sale early next year, executives said.
"With Medfield we're in the power envelope for phones ... We're working with several customers and we start to expect to see the revenue ramp toward the end of this year," Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith said.
In April, Intel introduced a new chip for tablets, codenamed Oak Trail, and said it will be used in more than 35 upcoming tablets and hybrid computer devices made by companies including Fujitsu and Lenovo.

LG Display sees LCD panel shortage from H2
The oversupplied flat screen market will swing back to a shortage in the second half, helped by strong demand from China and restocking by television makers to prepare for a seasonal rise in demand, an executive at LG Display said.
"We see the LCD market tightening and swinging back to a short supply condition in the second half," Kevin Choi, head of TV sales and marketing at the world's No.2 flat-screen maker, told the Reuters Technology Summit in Seoul on Wednesday.
"Prices (of television panels) have just started rising and will continue to rise steadily toward the second half as worldwide panel inventory has now returned to historically normal levels and TV demand tends to pick up in the fourth quarter," Choi said.
LG Display's outlook was more bullish than that of its bigger rival Samsung Electronics. The head of Samsung's LCD business told the Reuters Technology Summit that flat screen prices were stabilising and its earnings would improve.
Choi said demand growth was strong in China and the U.S. markets but subdued in western Europe.
After a one third fall in prices over the past one year, TV panel prices are finally showing signs of bottoming out this month, with prices of 40-42 inch panels edging up 1 percent from late April, according to industry data.
Choi said gains in blended selling prices of LG Display's TV panels are outpacing an overall market recovery and started rising slightly from April thanks to strong demand for pricey 3D panels.
Shares in LG Display, which counts LG Electronics and Philips AG as its major TV screen clients, were up 1.6 percent by 0335 GMT in a broader market up 1.3 percent.

4G Service

Internet Speed Up British Mobile
Mobile phone networks in Britain will be able to provide internet speeds up to 16 times faster than current technologies after Ofcom unveiled plans for 4G coverage.
Ofcam, the independent telecom regulator in Britain, has announced an auction for the right to provide high-speed services to consumers and businesses in a sale that could raise more than 10 billion pounds for the treasury.
It is envisaged that four companies would buy the right to offer 4G services -- already available in the US -- from 2013.
Typically, they should offer speeds of 4 to 8 megabits per second (Mbps), compared with the 0.5 to 2 Mbps of most existing 3G services which currently connect high-tech handsets such as the iPhone to mobile masts and the web.
The speedier system will allow people to smoothly stream high-definition TV and films on their smartphones, laptops and tablets on the go, the Daily Mail reports.
However, rural areas may face a long wait for the mobile revolution, as successful bidders will have until 2017 to achieve coverage for 95 percent of the country.
The auction will cover two significant spectrum bands within the so-called 'sweet spot' which is most suitable for mobile communications - 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz - made available as a result of the government's decision to end analogue TV broadcasts in a switch to digital transmissions.
Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards said 4G offers 'much better data services and therefore all the kind of things you can get on your broadband at home or in your office and that you aspire to do through your smartphone or tablet computer and so forth, that is exactly what 4G services will enable.'

New Products Of Samsung, LG

Shares in Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics Inc rose more than 3 percent on Monday following new mobile product launches and hopes for steady market share gains.
Nokia, the world's top handset maker, teamed up with Microsoft Corp on Friday, raising prospects that Apple and vendors using Google Inc's Android

System May Gain Further Market Share.

"People had expected Nokia to fight back but the alliance won't be able to help Nokia rebound strongly. It will rather further consolidate the current trend of Android vendors gaining more market share," said Park Young-joo, an analyst at Woori Investment & Securities.
By 0220 GMT, shares in Samsung, the world's No.2 handset maker, jumped 3.6 percent after a five-session losing streak, and LG, the world's No.3, climbed 4.5 percent.
Samsung was also helped by the launch of its new smartphone and a tablet, both running on the Android platform, on Sunday.
"The new Galaxy Tab came out with a larger screen and better processing power than the previous one. It's probably the only tablet PC out there that can compete with Apple's iPad," said Jeff Kang, an analyst at Daishin Securities.
Android dethroned Nokia's Symbian as the global leader in smartphone software during the last quarter of 2010, ending a reign that began with the birth of the industry a decade ago.
In 2010, Microsoft only had a 4.2 percent share of the global smartphone market, trailing Apple with 15.7 percent, Research in Motion with 16 percent and Android with 22.7 percent, according to research firm Gartner.
"Nokia joining hands with Microsoft just proves how desperate it is now. It will take a bit of time for Nokia to unveil a product out of this alliance...Investors are increasingly viewing Samsung as the next one in line (to reign) over the handset
realm," said Lee Jeong, an analyst at Eugene Investment & Securities.
